A response to ‘The Lover’s Companion Guide to Verbs’ by Marjon Mossammaparast*

transverse verbs (that cannot be further divided) keep

lovers separated by kitchen and street

tense lost

no beginning or end

love expands or splits (the heart)

fills or empties us

gushes out of us like water off a silk plain

words taken like medicine

in transitory communication

breathe by sleep

in the present     nouns, adjectives

replace phrases, letters removed

(but somehow still on the page)

written on land that doesn’t know language

in speak

we find each other or we don’t

in the cold alone of the kitchen, no window, no door
